Luke Bernetich is a native of Olney, Maryland and graduated high school at the age of 18. Upon graduation, he moved to Salisbury, Maryland to attend college. He received his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Salisbury University in 2016, and then moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His neighbor was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and recruited him to join.
Captain Bernetich graduated from Officer Candidate School on November 16, 2019, and received his commission that day. He reported to The Basic School and graduated on June 18, 2020. He then attended Combat Engineer Officer’s Course in Camp Lejeune, and graduated April 7, 2021.
Second Lieutenant Bernetich reported to 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, Headquarters and Support Company in Baltimore, MD. He was with the unit from April 9, 2021 – August 29, 2021 where he served as Engineer Reconnaissance Section OIC.
He transferred to Company E, 4th CEB in Bessemer, Alabama and became 2nd Platoon Commander. He served as 2nd Platoon Commander at Integrated Training Exercise 4-22.
He became 1st Platoon Commander on May 5, 2023 and took the Platoon through Resolute Sentinel-2023 in Peru and National Training Command Rotation 24-09 in 2024. He assumed command of Company E on August 4, 2024. Captain Bernetich’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Captain Bernetich previously worked at Combat Development and Integration as an analyst, and currently works as a logistician for Marine Corps Systems Command.
