HM1 (FMF) Matthew A. Clutter

Hospital Corpsman First Class Matthew Clutter is a native of Charlottesville, Virginia. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications from West Liberty State College, where he graduated in 2002. After working for five years in the newspaper industry, he enlisted in the Navy in November 2007 as a Hospital Corpsman.

He attended Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, IL., and graduated in the top three of his class in 2008. After attending Field Medical Training Battalion at Camp Lejeune, N.C., he was stationed with Ist Battalion, 8th Marines in Camp Lejeune as a Line Corpsman. During his three-year tour there, he completed two combat deployments, one to Irag and one to Afghanistan.

He then served at U.S. Naval Hospital Sigonella, Italy, from 2011 to 2014 where, as a Hospital Corpsman Second Class, he was the Leading Petty. Officer of the Medical Home Port Clinic.

Following his tour in Sigonella, he transferred to Navy Medicine Operational Training Command in Pensacola, Fla. While there, he worked directly with Vietnam-era Prisoners of War at the Robert E. Mitchell Center for Prisoner of War Studies.

He then made the cross-country move to 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton. Ca. While there, he deployed with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit where he was selected as the 31st MEU Junior Sailor of the Quarter. Following his deployment, he worked as the Educational Services Officer at the Division Surgeon's Office.

After being promoted to Hospital Corpsman First Class, HMI Clutter transferred to Detachment 3. Supply Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 453 in Charleston, S.C.. Where he currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader. HMI Clutter is a recipient of the Purple Heart, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Combat Action Ribbon, two Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medals, and numerous other unit and personal awards.
