Hospital Corpsman First Class Michael B. Jennings enlisted in the Navy Reserves in December 2010. Upon completion of Recruit Training and Hospital Corps School at Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Field Medical Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton, California graduating in December of 2011, and was assigned the NEC of Field Medical Technician (LO3A).
In December of 2011 Hospitalman (HN) Jennings was assigned to Marine Air Control Squadron 23 (MAC23) Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado for duty as a Reserve Corpsman. For his efforts he was awarded a Certificate of Commendation and was subsequently promoted to Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer 3rd Class (HM3) in July of 2012.
In August 2012 HM3 was reassigned to Amphibious Construction Battalion (ACB) 1 and subsequently completed numerous rifle/pistol qualifications and provided medical coverage in Coronado. California where in addition to providing daily sick call screening to Seabee's and Navy SEAL's he qualified expert with an M16 and qualified as a First-Class swImmer.
In September of 2013 HM3 moved to Houston, TX where he was then assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 22. During this time HM3 Jennings learned proficiency in establishing a Forward Operating Base, patrolling. mass casualty exercises, chemical attacks/decontamination procedures, and medical evacuation by air in remote training areas. He also began a career as an Emergency Room Technician working in several area trauma hospitals. In June of 2014 he was promoted to Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer Second Class (HM2).
In Octobc 2014 HM2 Jennings checked into Alpha Company, Ist Battalion, 23D Regiment (1/23), 4th Marine Division. HM2 Jennings was placed with 2d Platoon as the Platoon Corpsman and commenced learning essential Line Corpsman skills. From October 2014 - June of 2021 HM2 Jennings provided a vast array of duties as a Line Corpsman for 1/23 including repeated evolutions of Mojave Viper & ITX in 29 Palms, CA, Mountain Warfare in Bridgeport, CA, and Baltic Operations where he participated in beach assaults from the USS Arlington via AAV's/LCAC's and coordinated medical care and training between 17 partner NATO countries while in Germany, Poland, Norway, and Latvia. During this period HM2 Jennings earned his Fleet Marine Force Warfare Device and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
While attending Weapons and Tactics Instructor course (WTI) in support of the HIMARS Battery, 2d Battalion. 14th Marines (2/14) in Yuma, AZ in 2022 HM2 Jennings was Meritoriously Promoted to Hospital Corpsman First Class (HM1) for his Achievements. He then went directly trom WTI to exercise Emerald Warrior, the largest joint special operations exercise involving U.S. Special Operations Command which was carried out across the East Coast.
In August of 2022 HM1 was selected as the Battalion Leading Petty Officer (BN LPO) for 1/23. Concurrently as the BN LPO he also covered as the Medical Department Representative (MDR), an Active-Duty Chief position, for Bravo Company 1/23 in Bossier City, LA. HM1 Jennings was able to raise Bravo Company from an initial Force Readiness Assessment and Assistance Program score of 25% to a final score of 88% in six weeks' time earning the Company a Deployment Capable status.
Upon the successful completion of the FRAAP inspection in January of 2023, HM1 Jennings was requested to fill in as the Senior Enlisted Leader for 23D Marine Regiment out of San Bruno, CA, an Active-Duty Senior Chief position in March of 2023 where he is currently serving.
