First Sergeant Ashton serves as Company First Sergeant for Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment in Perrysburg, Ohio.
Private Ashton enlisted in the Marine Corps in June, 2006 and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California and Basic Infantry Marine Training at School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, California, earning the 0311 Rifleman Military Occupational Specialty.
Lance Corporal Ashton was then assigned to 1st Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines in February, 2007. In July, 2007 First Sergeant Ashton deployed to Saqlawiyah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a rifleman, platoon radio operator, electronic counter-warfare module operator, and sensitive site exploitation Marine.
Upon returning to the United States in January, 2007 First Sergeant Ashton was awarded Battalion Marine of the Quarter and attended and graduated from Infantry Squad Leaders Course. During this course he was meritoriously promoted to Corporal.
Once returned to his unit Corporal Ashton completed training with the Special Operations Training Group then deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in January, 2009, serving as a team and squad leader with 1st Platoon. In June, 2010 Corporal Ashton ended active service.
In October, 2010 Corporal Ashton joined Company K, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines in Terre Haute, IN, and was promoted to Sergeant. He was then assigned as a squad leader in 2nd platoon.
In March, 2013 Company K, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines was reorganized into Company B, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines and Sergeant Ashton was assigned as Platoon Commander for 3rd Platoon. Later that year he was selected for and attended the Marine Exchange Program with the United Kingdom's Royal Marines Commandos.
Sergeant Ashton attended Reserve Career Course in 2014 and was then promoted to Staff Sergeant. In 2016 First Sergeant Ashton attended Reserve Infantry Platoon Sergeants Course and was the recipient of the Gung Ho award.
In 2017 First Sergeant Ashton attended and graduated from Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group then deployed to Central America as a Staff Noncommissioned Officer In Charge of a Security Cooperation Team based in Belize as part of the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Southern Command 17-2.
Upon his return to Company B, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines Staff Sergeant Ashton resumed his role as Platoon Commander but was assigned to 1st Platoon and maintained this role until relocated to his current position he promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in 2022 and moved to Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines to serve as Platoon Commander for the Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon.
In November of 2025 Gunnery Sergeant Ashton was frocked to First Sergeant and reassigned to his current role as Company First Sergeant.
First Sergeant Ashton's personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6th award), and Combat Action Ribbon. First Sergeant Ashton holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Digital Forensics, and serves as a Lieutenant for a police department in Indiana.
