Major Charles J. Love
Commanding Officer
4th Reconnaissance Battalion

Christopher Love is a native of Jacksonville, FL. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 2007 and attended Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA. He subsequently attended Marine Combat Training in Camp Pendleton, CA, and Motor Vehicle Operator's Course in Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

Assigned to Company A, 6th Motor Transport Battalion in Orlando, FL, he mobilized in December 2007 and deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. Upon return, he de-mobilized and began attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in January 2009. In December 2012, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science and commissioned as a Marine officer through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He subsequently attended Basic Officer Training and Infantry Officer Course in Quantico, VA before executing orders to 2d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment in Camp Lejeune, NC.

At 2/2, he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander with Company G from April 2014 to March 2015, and as the 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander with Weapons Company from March 2015 to August 2016. During this period, he deployed to USEUCOM with Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Crisis Response, and to USINDOPACOM with the Unit Deployment Program - East. In December 2016 he graduated from Basic Reconnaissance Course and executed orders to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division in Camp Pendleton, CA.

At 1st Recon, he briefly served as a Battalion S-3 Training Officer and Force Reconnaissance Platoon Commander before merging his platoon to re-form Company A, where he led a platoon from July 2017 to July 2020. With Company A, he conducted deployments for training and exercises to USNORTHCOM and USEUCOM and fulfilled I MEF “Force” tasking for a period of 20 months. In July 2020 he executed orders to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division in Camp Lejeune, NC.

At 2d Recon, he served as the Company Commander for Headquarters and Service Company from August 2020 to April 2021 and then for Force Reconnaissance Company from April 2021 to August 2022. During this period, he deployed to USEUCOM and USAFRICOM for the first iteration of Task Force 61/2. From August 2022 to September 2023, he served as the Officer in Charge of the Special Tactics Branch of II MEF Expeditionary Operations Training Group in Stone Bay, NC. In October 2023, he accepted a commission in the Marine Corps Reserve and was assigned to 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division.

Major Chris Love has served in his current assignment with 4th Recon as the Company Commander of Company A in Alameda, CA since November 2023. He advises on national defense issues. He is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar and Marine Corps Command and Staff Non-Resident Seminar.
