Master Sergeant Powell is a native of Orlando, FL. He graduated from Dr. Phillips High School in 2003. He reported to Boot Camp and attached to 2nd Battalion, Hotel Company, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, in October 2003. After completing Marine Combat Training, he reported to Camp Johnson, North Carolina, for Personnel Administration School and was assigned the MOS 0121. In May 2004, Private First Class Powell reported to the Group Consolidated Administrative Center (GCAC), Headquarters and Support Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group, where he served as the New Join Unit Diary Clerk.
From September 2005 to February 2006, Lance Corporal Powell was assigned to the 2d Force Service Support Group (Forward), which later became the 2d Marine Logistics Group (Forward), where he deployed to Al Taqaddum, Iraq, in the billet of Travel Claims Clerk. While on this deployment, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal.
From February 2006 to October 2007, Corporal Powell reported back to the Group Consolidated Administrative Center (GCAC), Headquarters and Support Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group, where he served as the Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge, a billet that is normally filled by a Staff Noncommissioned Officer. In October 2007, Corporal Powell was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps and transferred to the Individual Ready Reserves.
From August 2008 to December 2009, Corporal Powell joined the Individual Mobilization Augmentee Program with Reserve Support Unit (RSU), Camp Lejeune, NC, where he served as an Audit Clerk. In December 2009, he transferred to the Individual Ready Reserves.
From January 2011 to February 2012, Corporal Powell joined the Selected Marine Corps Reserves with Marine Aviation Training Support Group 42, Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL, where he served as the unit diary clerk. In October 2011, Corporal Powell was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In February 2012, he was transferred to the Individual Mobilization Augmentee Program.
From February 2012 to October 2012, Sergeant Powell reported to the 3d Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Orders Clerk. During this time, Sergeant Powell was selected for active-duty service in the Active Reserve Program.
From October 2012 to May 2015, Sergeant Powell reported to the Reserve Liaison Office, 3d Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Integration Clerk. During his tour in Okinawa, Japan, Sergeant Powell was involved in several exercises, including Balikatan, Cobra Gold, Key Resolve, and the Philippine Amphibious Landing Exercise (PHIBLEX). In November 2013, he supported Operation DAMAYAN, launched to assist survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), aided in the humanitarian relief efforts, and received the Joint Meritorious Unit Award.
From July 2015 to March 2018, Sergeant Powell reported to Site Support, 4th Marine Air Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, CA. He served as the Legal Clerk, Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge, Assistant Administrative Chief, and Administrative Chief. On October 1, 2017, Sergeant Powell was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
From March 2018 to December 2021, Staff Sergeant Powell reported to Fox Company, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, where he served as the Administrative Chief. The company was activated in 2006, and on August 25, 2020, it was officially deactivated as part of the Marine Corps Force Design 2030 to eliminate all tank units, shifting focus to lighter and more mobile expeditionary capabilities. Staff Sergeant Powell served as the last Administrative Chief of Fox Company, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division.
From January 2021 to June 2025, Staff Sergeant Powell reported to Wounded Warrior Regiment, Quantico, VA, where he served as the Administrative Chief and RMED Approver in the Reserve Medical Entitlements Determination (RMED) Program section. Staff Sergeant Powell was one of two Benefits Issuing Authority for all Reserve Component (RC) Marines injured while in a duty status on behalf of the Commandant of the Marine Corps. On November 1, 2020, Staff Sergeant Powell was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, and in February 2025, he was selected for the rank of Master Sergeant and frocked on May 14, 2025.
In June 2025, Master Sergeant Powell was transferred to Marine Fighter Training Squadron 402, where he currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL).
Master Sergeant Powell’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal W/ gold star and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
