Captain Michael A. Hughey
Commanding Officer
Maintenance Services Company

Captain Michael Hughey is a native of Phoenix, Arizona. He enlisted in the Marines in 2008 out of RSS Deer Valley and graduated a PFC after attending a semester of college at Arizona State University. He subsequently attended MCT and Supply MOS school in both California and North Carolina respectively.

In June 2009, PFC Hughey reported to 3rd Supply Battalion, CLR-35 aboard Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan. Shortly after reporting to CLR-35, LCpl Hughey volunteered for deployment with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit out of Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. LCpl Hughey deployed twice out of Camp Hansen in support of operations Cobra Gold, Balikatan, and humanitarian relief efforts in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia in 2009 and 2010.

Upon return from deployment, Cpl Hughey was assigned to 2nd Marine Headquarters Group, II MEF aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he led both the Fiscal and Admin department of II MHG Supply from 2011-2013. Sgt Hughey left active duty in 2013 to attend school full-time and then volunteered back onto active duty via ADOS orders in 2014 with Marine Special Operations Regiment out of Stone Bay, NC where he led their fiscal department as well.

Upon completion of schooling and ADOS orders, Sgt Hughey was selected for Officer Candidate School via the OCC 10-week course in the 2015 summer class in Quantico, VA. 2nd Lt. Hughey graduated OCS in the top 10% of his class with 300’s on both PFT and CFT. Upon completion of the Basic Officer Course and Supply Management course, 2nd Lt. Hughey was assigned to HQ Battery, 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment as the S-4A out of Seal Beach, California, where he led combat logistics trains during ITX operations.

In 2017, 1st Lt. Hughey volunteered for ADOS orders in support of 1st Supply Battalion, CLR-15 as the S-3A, where he led and executed their annual training plan and designed/incorporated their first annual battalion-wide battlefield combat skills field exercise, replacing the previous BST exam. Upon completion of ADOS orders, 1st Lt. Hughey transferred to Maintenance Company, CLB-453, where he served as Detachment Commander over Det 3 in Vienna, Ohio. As Det Commander, Capt Hughey designed and executed the annual training plan for a Detachment of over 100 Marines and Sailors and meritoriously promoted both the number 1 SSgt and GySgt of all MFR in 2019.

Upon completion of command, Capt Hughey transferred to and volunteered for ADOS orders with DLA Distribution Headquarters out of New Cumberland, PA, as a staff planner as well as their lead Covid Tracer for over 24 distribution centers worldwide from 2020-2021. In 2022, Captain Hughey volunteered for transfer into the IMA program as a Recruiting Support Officer with RS Phoenix out of Phoenix, AZ, where he served as the state’s only RSO. In that role, he augmented the active duty force via coordination and liaison with a local Marine Reserve population of over 500 Marines, connecting them with active duty opportunities across the state via the RecAide and EAD programs, resulting in filling critical statewide recruiter gaps and contributing to RS Phoenix achieving top RS in the country for 2023.

Captain Hughey is currently serving as the Company Commander for Maintenance Services Company, CLB-23 out of Sacramento, California. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.
