Lieutenant Colonel Dianna F. DiToro
Commanding Officer
Marine Air Control Squadron 24

2nd Lt DiToro graduated from Old Dominion University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the United States Marine Corps. Upon completion of the Basic School in June of 2003, 2nd Lt DiToro received training as an Air Support Control Officer.

She then reported to Marine Air Support Squadron 1 (MASS-1), Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. She deployed in 2004 in the MASS-1 Direct Air Support Center (Airborne) (DASC(A)) which was attached to Marine Air Control Group 38 (MACG-38) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II (OIF).    During this deployment, 2nd Lt DiToro also supported Regimental Combat Team-7 (RCT-7) as their air support liaison team officer. In 2006, 1st Lt DiToro deployed in support of OIF and served as the Senior Air Director in the main Direct Air Support Center (DASC).

Upon returning from Iraq in 2006, 1st Lt DiToro received orders to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron-1 (MAWTS-1) in Yuma, Arizona in order to serve as the assistant operations officer. Here she earned the senior air director qualification and graduated from the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course as a DASC student. In 2007, she was promoted to the rank of captain. In 2008, Capt DiToro graduated Summa Cum Laude with her first Master’s degree from Gonzaga University in Organizational Leadership.  In 2008, Capt DiToro left active duty and attended Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) as a reservist.

In 2010, Capt DiToro joined MASS-6, Detachment Alpha as their detachment officer-in-charge (OIC). Capt DiToro earned her Master’s in Exercise Science from the California University of Pennsylvania in 2011. In April 2013, she was promoted to the rank of Major.

In late 2013, Maj DiToro joined the Twentynine Palms Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) unit as the aviation command and control representative, or Coyote, for the Tactical Training, and Exercise Control Group. In 2014, she received her doctorate in physical therapy and graduated with honors. Dr. DiToro coached strength and conditioning, practiced as a physical therapist, lectured internationally for MobilityWOD, and operated her own clinic from late 2014-2016 near San Francisco, CA.

Maj DiToro accepted mobilization orders to Marine Forces Europe in late 2016 through the end of 2017 and again from August 2019 through August 2020. She was promoted to lieutenant colonel in August 2019. In between mobilizations she accepted a civilian position working health and fitness policy issues for the Marine Corps at the Force Fitness Division, attended the full-length Marine Corps Command and Staff College and supported Headquarters Marine Corps Information, Command, Control, Communications and Computers (IC4) Division in an IMA capacity.  

LtCol DiToro pivoted to space operations in August 2020 after receiving active duty orders to serve as the first US Space Command liaison officer to US Africa Command (AFRICOM) and the first director of the Joint Integrated Space Team (JIST) to AFRICOM. She prepared for this role by attending Introduction to Space, Space 200, Space 300, the Joint Space Planner’s Course and the Space Integrated Planning Element pilot course at the National Security Space Institute in addition to on-the-job mentorship from senior space officers from the Army and Air Force/Space Force. Upon completion of her active duty orders, Dr. DiToro was hired in a civilian capacity as the deputy director of the JIST to AFRICOM and continues to serve in this role. LtCol DiToro will take command of Marine Air Control Squadron (MACS) 24 from LtCol Jennifer Ledford in July 2021.
