Colonel Massey was commissioned in the Marine Corps through the Platoon Leaders Course program in 1996. Attended The Basic School earning the MOS designation: 0302, Infantry Officer.
Initially assigned to Company G 2D Bn, 3D Marines in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii he served in leadership roles across the company, battalion and regiment in support of Marine Forces Pacific Special Operations Command. He concluded his tour in Hawaii as the Operations Officer for Headquarters Battalion, Marine Forces Pacific.
Col Massey departed the active component of the Marine Corps and affiliated with the Selected Marine Corps Reserve in 2001 joining 2D Bn, 23D Marines. He served as the Combined Anti-Armor Team Commander deploying for Operation Iraqi Freedom as a member of Regimental Combat Team - 1 (RCT-1) and then Task Force Tarawa.
Col Massey has served as a Company commander for A Company 4th LAR and G Company 2D Bn 23D Marines before becoming the battalion operations officer where he executed small unit mobilizations, developed training executed various exercises including BALTOPS, Partnership of the Americas, UNITAS and Africa Lion. Recruited by Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group
(MCTOG) he created an IMA det to provide Reserve Battle Staff Training across MFR.
Col Massey commanded 2D Battalion 23D Marines California participating in numerous exercises in North and South America culminating in the battalion large scale exercise MTNEX in Bridgeport, Ca.
Departing command, he joined the 4th Marine Division Staff mobilizing for over a year as the G-3/Assistant Chief-of-Staff in New Orleans LA. From there he transferred to I MEF to again create an IMA det for I MIG, adding Reserve support to their intelligence efforts across the South Pacific. Col Massey was selected to his current role as the Senior Reserve Advisor to 23D Marines providing talent management support, counsel and special projects for the regiment.
Col Massey is a Command and Staff Graduate, an “Operations and Tactics Instructor” he holds a B.A. in Speech Communications, a Master of Business Administration, with honors, from Regis University and is a graduate of the Army War College with a Masters in Strategic Studies.
Military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (gold stars in lieu of 3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold stars in lieu of 3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Vand gold star) the Combat Action Ribbon and other personal, campaign and service awards.
In his civilian capacity, Col Massey is the founder of a leadership consulting firm, and runs a nonprofit business promoting veteran small business services. In those roles he provides speeches on leadership and veteran issues nationally. Additionally, he serves on several boards like, The University of Southern California's MBV graduate program and the Devil Pups.
