LtCol David A. Goodman
Commanding Officer
Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 49

LtCol David Goodman grew up in Carlsbad, CA before attending Hanover College for his undergraduate studies. He graduated from Hanover College in 2007 and attended Officer Candidate Course where he received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Upon completing The Basic School in Quantico, VA, 2ndLt Goodman reported to Pensacola, FL for flight training and was assigned to fly the MV-22B Osprey. He received his wings in May 2011 and subsequently reported to MCAS New River for fleet replacement training in the Osprey.

After initial training at VMMT-204, 1stLt Goodman reported to VMM-561 aboard MCAS Miramar and served as the Squadron Scheduling Officer. After the squadron reached its fully operational capability milestones, it relocated to MCAS Futenma in Okinawa as VMM-265. While there, Captain Goodman served as the Current Operations Officer, Squadron Adjutant and Administrative Officer, and the Aviation Safety Officer. During this time, Captain Goodman was assigned to multiple 31st MEUs, participated in multiple multi-lateral exercises, and responded to disasters throughout the Pacific providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief. Next, Captain Goodman reported to VMM-164 aboard MCAS Camp Pendleton to serve as the Pilot Training Officer and Quality Assurance Officer. During his time with the Knightriders, Captain Goodman oversaw the squadron flight training program ensuring the newly stood up squadron was on trajectory to meet all operational capability milestones. As the Quality Assurance Officer he oversaw all initial and required maintenance inspections to ensure the squadron was fully operationally capable. Following his time with the Knightriders, Captain Goodman PCS’d to NAS Corpus Christi to serve as an instructor pilot with the Stingrays of VT-35. During his time with the Stingrays, Captain Goodman was promoted to Major and served as the squadron PAO, Director of Safety and Standardization, and the Senior Marine.

In 2019 upon completion of his tour with the Stingrays, Major Goodman transitioned to the Select Marine Corps Reserve and joined the 1st MAW IMA Det as an Aviation Liaison Officer. At the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Major Goodman transferred to the MARFORRES G-3/5 where he activated in support of COVID contingency operations. In this capacity, he oversaw the ad-hoc activation of over 1500 Marines in support of COVID requirements aboard MCRD Parris Island and San Diego. Following his activation, he continued to serve in the MARFORRES G-3/5 IMA Detachment as the Regional Operations Plans and Policy Officer to European and African Command and now serves as the Commanding Officer for Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 49 aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, NC.

LtCol Goodman is a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Program and Marine Corps Command and Staff Distance Program. He holds a B.S. in Political Science and Sociology and an M.S. in International Relations. LtCol Goodman’s personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (3rd Award), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd Award). He has over 2,500 mishap free military flight hours in the MV-22 and the T-44. In his civilian career, LtCol Goodman is a First Officer on the Boeing 787 for United Airlines.
