On September 20, 1979 SgtMaj Salavarria was born in Bronx, NY. After attending the City University of New York at Lehman College on May 2003, SgtMaj Salavarria enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted on a four year Active Duty contract and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Depot Parris Island as a Private. He then reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT) aboard MCB Camp Lejeune, NC.

SgtMaj Salavarria completed MCT in September 2003 and was assigned as a Field Radio Operator (0621). Upon completion of MCT, SgtMaj Salavarria reported to Twenty Nine Palms, CA for Field Radio Operators Course (FROC). After successfully completing FROC (0621), SgtMaj Salavarria was ordered to attend a follow on MOS school. He then attended the Multi-Channel Equipment Operators Course (MEOC). SgtMaj Salavarria graduated from MOS school as a Multi-Channel Equipment Operator (0622) on April 2004.

SgtMaj Salavarria was then assigned to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18, 1st Marine Air Wing aboard Camp Foster in Okinawa, Japan where he was promoted to the ranks of Private First Class and Lance Corporal. In April 2005, he reported to Marine Wing Communication Squadron 28, 2nd Marine Air Wing aboard MCAS Cherry Point, NC. 

SgtMaj Salavarria deployed with Alpha Company on July 2005 with MWCS 28 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on Al Assad base, Iraq. Upon return from his deployment SgtMaj Salavarria ended his Active Duty contract and separated from service with an Honorable Discharge as a Corporal on May 2007.

On July 2007, SgtMaj Salavarria joined the New York City Police Dept and began training in the Police Academy. He graduated as a sworn Police Officer after six months of recruit training within the top ten percentile of a graduating class of 1,200 recruits.

On December 2008, while assigned to the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR), SgtMaj Salavarria affiliated with 6th Communication Battalion, Alpha Company aboard Reserve Center Farmingdale, NY. SgtMaj Salavarria served at 6th Comm Bn, Alpha Co. through the ranks of Sergeant as a Platoon Sergeant, Staff Sergeant as Company Gunnery Sergeant and Gunnery Sergeant as Acting Company First Sergeant.

On March 2015, SgtMaj Salavarria graduated from the NYPD Specialized Training School. This course is an eight month school where skills are developed in Auto Extrication, Rescue Diving, Special Weapons and Tactics, Rope Rescue techniques, EMT certification and Hazmat technician skills. SgtMaj Salavarria now performs duties as a Detective within the New York City Police Dept in the Emergency Service Unit.

On November 2016, SgtMaj Salavarria did mobilize attached to Combined Task Force 51/5 in Bahrain as the detachment's Senior Enlisted and Communications Chief. He served as the Senior enlisted to 31 Marines and the Communications Chief responsible for Communications and COMSEC equipment valued over ten million dollars. Additionally, he supervised the movement of the Deployable Joint Command and Control system from Bahrain to Jordan for the Combined Exercise Eager Lion 2017.

On May 2019, SgtMaj Salavarria was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and transferred Truck Company, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division Erie, PA for his first tour as Company First Sergeant. At Truck Company SgtMaj Salavarria performed duties as a Company First Sergeant for two Company Commanders and approximately 200 Marines. On June 2022 SgtMaj Salavarria was transferred for his consecutive tour as the Company First Sergeant for General Support Company, 6th Communication Battalion, Force Headquarters Group.

On May 2023 SgtMaj Salavarria was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major and was transferred to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 49 in Newburgh, NY as the Squadron Sergeant Major.

SgtMaj Salavarria's personal awards include three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
