Biography

 

Lieutenant Colonel Jason M. Ellis
Commanding Officer
4th Marine Aircraft Wing Site Support

Lieutenant Colonel Ellis was commissioned at the United States Naval Academy on May 23rd, 2003. After graduation from The Basic School, Second Lieutenant Ellis began flight training in Pensacola, Florida and finished flight training in Corpus Christi, Texas. Second Lieutenant Ellis was designated a Naval Aviator in May, 2005 and promoted to First Lieutenant in June 2005. 

First Lieutenant Ellis reported to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 253 (VMGRT-253) MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, for training as a KC-130R/F pilot. In April 2006, he reported to AFB Little Rock, Arkansas, to attend the KC-130J Pilot Initial Qualification course. Upon completion in July 2006, he was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352), MCAS Miramar, California. In August 2007, he deployed to Iraq for a six month deployment and was promoted to Captain in September 2007. 

In April 2009, Capt Ellis reported to Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3 (VMU-3) in Twenty nine Palms, California. He attended the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Mission Commanders course in April 2009. In October 2009 he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan for six months. 

Captain Ellis returned from deployment in May 2010. Captain Ellis reported to MCAS Miramar in June 2010 to begin his second tour with VMGR-352. In the fall of 2010 He graduated from the Marine Corps Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course and designated a WTI. In January 2012 he deployed to Kandahar Afghanistan in support of OEF as the VMGR-352 Det A Operations Officer and KC-130J Harvest HAWK Aircraft Commander. Ellis returned from deployment in August 2012.

In July of 2013, Captain Ellis reported to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) in Yuma, AZ. He was promoted to Major in January 2012 and served as the MAWTS-1 KC-130 Division Head and major evolution coordinator. He transitioned to the Marine Corps active reserves in June 2016 and reported to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 234. Major Ellis transferred to Marine Aircraft Group 41 Headquarters in June 2019 where he served as the operations officer. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in January 2020 and selected for Command. In August of 2021 he assumed command of Detachment Bravo, MAG-41 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. 
    
Lieutenant Colonel Ellis has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal with strike/flight numeral 10, and the Navy Commendation Medal.
