First Sergeant Erick A. Guzman
Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant, Headquarters Battery, 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment

First Sergeant Guzman entered the Marine Corps in October 1998 and graduated from recruit training, MCRD San Diego, California in January 1999. After completion Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton Ca, First Sergeant Guzman received orders to North Carolina.

In April 1999, First Sergeant Guzman reported to 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA. During his tour he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal. In June of 1999 he deployed as part of Battalion Landing Team 1/1. During this deployment he participated in Operation Southern Watch and conducted Humanitarian Service Operations in East Timor.

In December 2001, First Sergeant Guzman was re-assigned to Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 13th MEU (SOC) and served in Operation Enduring Freedom. During this deployment, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal. He was selected to be part of the Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) Platoon, which provided countless Security missions in Kenya, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. During this deployment he also participated in operation Anaconda in Afghanistan.

Following his return from his tour with BLT 1/4, First Sergeant Guzman was re-assigned back to HQ Company, 1st Marine Regiment. In November 2002, First Sergeant Guzman was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In January 2003, First Sergeant Guzman was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines. Serving as a Team Leader in the LOC/COC Security Platoon, he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, and was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon.

Upon his return to CONUS in June of 2003, First Sergeant Guzman was assigned to 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA. In February 2004, while assigned as Team Leader, 2nd Platoon, Bravo Battery, First Sergeant Guzman deployed once again to Iraq. Following his return of a 7-month deployment, First Sergeant Guzman received orders to the Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Bliss, Texas for Stinger Gunner Training. There he served as the Class Leader, and was the Honor Graduate for his class.

First Sergeant Guzman served as Team Leader, Section Leader, and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom 05-07.02 and 06-08.1 as Platoon Sergeant 3rd Platoon, Patrols Platoon, Bravo Battery, 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Al Asad, Iraq. First Sergeant Guzman was Combat Meritorious promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant on 02 February 2007. In October 1 2007, First Sergeant Guzman received orders to Drill Instructor School, San Diego CA.

Upon graduating Drill Instructor school, First Sergeant Guzman was assigned to 3rd Battalion, India Company where he successfully completed 4 cycles as a Green Belt Drill Instructor, 2 cycles as a Senior Drill Instructor, and 1 cycle as a Chief Drill Instructor. He was hand selected to serve as the 3rd Battalion S-3 Operations Chief, where he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. In December 1 2010, First Sergeant Guzman received orders to 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA.

Once at 3d LAAD Battalion, First Sergeant Guzman was selected to be the SNCOIC for LAAD detachment attached to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (SOC). During this deployment, First Sergeant Guzman was selected for Assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI) duty and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.

On May 1, 2013 First Sergeant Guzman reported to the Officers Candidate School in Quantico Virginia for duty. On 1 August 2013, First Sergeant Guzman was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. While at OCS, First Sergeant Guzman successfully completed a total of 9 training cycles, 4 as a Sergeant Instructor, 3 as a Platoon Sergeant, 2 as a Company GySgt, and selected to serve as the CSA Chief. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation. On August 1, 2016, First Sergeant Guzman received orders to 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA. where he was selected to his current rank.

On January 17 2017, First Sergeant Guzman reported to 2d Battalion 4th Marines, where he deployed in support of the Marine Rotational Force-Darwin 18.2 to Australia. While at 2/4, he served as Fox Company First Sergeant and Weapons Company First Sergeant. Upon returning to CONUS, First Sergeant Guzman received orders to 5th Battalion, 14th Marines in Seal Beach, California.

On January 15 2019, First Sergeant Guzman reported to 5th Battalion, 14th Marines, where he currently serves as I&I Site First Sergeant.

First Sergeant Guzman's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with gold star in lieu of third award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
