Biography

 

Captain Donald A. Giron
Commanding Officer
Battery Q., 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment

Captain Donald Giron is a native of Alexandria VA. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. In the fall of 2016, he reported to Officer Candidate School, then The Basic School. Upon completion of The Basic School, he was selected to become an Artillery Officer and continued to Marine Artillery Officer Basic Course aboard Ft. Sill, OK.
 
After completing Marine Artillery Officer Basic Course in March 2018, he received orders to Papa Battery, 5th Battalion, 14th Marines, in Spokane, WA. While assigned to Papa Battery, Captain Giron initially served as a Forward Observer from 2018-2019 and participated in exercise Flaming Thunder in Lithuania. Between 2019  - 2022, Captain Giron was next assigned as Fire Direction Officer, Guns Platoon Commander, and Battery Executive Officer. He participated in various annual training exercises to include: Integrated Training Exercise, 11th Marines Spring FireEx, and 14th Marines FireEx.
 
In February 2022, Captain Giron reported to 5th Battalion 14th Marines at Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach and assumed duties as the Assistant Operations Officer and Battalion Fire Direction Officer. As the Assistant OpsO/BnFDO, Captain Giron served as the lead MAGTF planner during ITX 4-23.
 
In December 2023, Captain Giron assumed command of Battery Q, 5th Battalion 14th Marines located in Aurora, CO. Captain Giron led the battery through Ivy Mass 2024, a joint multi-domain operation, in support of the 4th Infantry Division aboard Fort Carson, Colorado.
 
Captain Giron is a graduate of the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School. His military education also includes completion of the Fire Support Coordination Course.
 
Captain Giron's personal awards and decorations include: Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal. Captain Giron currently lives in San Diego, CA, and works as a Project Manager supporting the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC PAC). He is also an active member of the National Naval Officers Association.
