Michael J. Carroll (Mike) attended the University of Houston as a student-athlete and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science. In August of 2000 he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and attended The Basic Course and Infantry Officers Course. In July of 2001 he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines and served as Rifle Platoon Commander, Weapons Platoon Commander, Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander, and Weapons Company Executive Officer. During this time, he conducted three deployments, one UDP (West), and two deployments in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
From May of 2005 to May of 2007, he was assigned to 1st ANGLICO and served as Fire Power Control Team Leader, Supporting Arms Liaison Team Leader, and Brigade Platoon Commander. During this time, he conducted two deployments in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
From 2007 to 2008 he attended the Expeditionary Warfare School.
From 2008 to 2010 he was assigned to 3d Battalion 2d Marines and served as Company Commander, India Company. During this time he deployed with the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit. Following the deployment the 22d MEU re-deployed and assisted with Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE.
In July of 2010 he was assigned to Plans, Policies, and Operations (PP&O). During this time he served as Command and Control Advocate, Assistant Infantry Advocate, and Aide-de-Camp to Deputy Commandant of PP&O.
In April of 2013 he was assigned to 2d Battalion, 6th Marines and served as Executive Officer. During this time, the battalion deployed for UDP (East) and supported III MEF with Operation DAMAYAN.
In late 2014, following the UDP, he was assigned to 2d Marine Regiment and would serve as Assistant Operations Officer and Operations Officer. During this time, he deployed as Operations Officer for Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa 15.1.
From 2016-2018, he attended both Command and Staff College and the School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW) aboard Quantico VA.
From 2018-2020, he was assigned to 1st Marine Division as the Plans Officer.
His personal awards include 3 x Meritorious Service Medal, 3 x Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 x w/ “V”), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Purple Heart.
