Shan G. Mandrayar graduated the United States Naval Academy in May of 2013 with a commission in the United States Marine Corps. After attending The Basic Officer Course and Infantry Officers Course in 2014, he was assigned to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as a Rifle Platoon Commander in 2d Battalion, 6th Marines.
From July 2014 to April 2016, he led a rifle platoon through a workup and 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit deployment. In May 2016 he assumed the billet of Weapons Company Executive Officer until accepting orders in August 2017 to the Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team (FAST) in Yorktown, Virginia.
While serving with FAST he deployed twice as a platoon commander in support of missions around the globe. In July 2019 he became Bravo FAST’s executive officer and helped ready platoons for contingency operations.
From August 2020 to May 2021, he attended the Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia.
In June 2021 he took orders to 2d Battalion 4th Marines in Camp Pendleton, California where he served as a Rifle Company Commander. In November of 2022 he led his company on a 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit deployment to the INDOPACOM region.
In December 2023 he left active duty and accepted a reserve commission. In January 2024 he assumed command of Company E, 2d Battalion, 24th Marines in Granger, Iowa.
His personal awards include the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
