Major Andrew C. Johnson is a native of Fairfax County, Virginia. He entered the Marine Corps in 2013 and earned a commission through the Officer Candidate Course. After attending The Basic Officer Course and Infantry Officer Course, Major Johnson reported to 1st Battalion, 24th Marines and served as a Rifle Platoon Commander from March 2014 to April 2015 in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. During this period, he was selected to return to active duty.
In May 2015 Major Johnson reported to 1st Battalion, 1st Marines where he served as 1st Platoon Commander, Company A. In April 2016, he deployed in support of Marine Rotational Force Darwin 2016 to Darwin, Australia. While forward deployed, he was assigned to duty as Company Executive Officer, Company A in July 2016. In August 2017 Major Johnson reported to Region 7, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group where he served as Operations Officer and Inspecting Officer to 22 Marine Security Guard Detachments across 20 countries in North and West Africa.
In August 2020 Major Johnson left active duty, and directly affiliated with Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines where he served as CAAT Platoon Commander. In February 2021, Major Johnson transitioned to the inactive ready reserve while he completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of California – Berkeley and relocated his family to Denver, CO. In January 2023, Major Johnson reported to the Marine for Life Program as the Colorado representative, where he assisted transitioning Marines in their relocation to Colorado following departure from active service.
In October 2024, Major Johnson took command of Company G, 2d Battalion, 24th Marines in Madison, WI.
His professional military education includes the Expeditionary Warfare School, Summer Mountain Leader Course, Infantry Officer Course, and The Basic School. He holds an MBA from University of California – Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from University of Colorado at Boulder.
In his civilian life, Major Johnson is a real estate developer where he builds large scale apartment projects, providing much needed housing.
Major Johnson is the recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
