Biography

 

Lieutenant Colonel William F. Dammin
Inspector-Instructor
4th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company

Lieutenant Colonel Dammin is a native of Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Tulane University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. He then completed The Basic School and Field Artillery Basic Officer Course in 2009.

Lieutenant Colonel Dammin’s first assignment was to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines where he served in the billets of platoon commander and battery executive officer from 2009-2012. He deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan as Battery R Executive Officer during this tour.

His next assignment was to 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) where he served in the billets of Firepower Control Team Leader, Supporting Arms Liaison Team Leader, and Brigade Platoon Commander from 2012-2015. He deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit as a Firepower Control Team Leader during this tour. 

Lieutenant Colonel Dammin attended Expeditionary Warfare School in Academic Year 2015-16 where he received the Larry K. Shipman Award as the school’s top Ground Combat Element student and was a member of the Marine Corps University President’s Honor Roll. 

He then transferred to 1st Battalion, 10th Marines where he served as Assistant Fire Support Coordinator and Battery Commander from 2016-2017. He later transferred to Task Force Southwest 18.1 and deployed to Operation Freedom Sentinel/Resolute Support in Afghanistan as the Task Force’s Fire Support Coordinator.

Following redeployment in 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Dammin transferred to The Basic School where he served in the billets of Section Head, Warfighting Instructor Group (WFIG); Company Commander, Company G 7-19; and Deputy Director, WFIG from 2019-2021. 

He later attended Marine Corps University’s Command and Staff College, graduating as a Gray Scholar in Academic Year 2021-2022.

Lieutenant Colonel Dammin reported to 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in 2022 where he served as Battalion Executive Officer. He then served as Exercise Control Department Officer-in-Charge with the Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group from 2023-2024 before taking over as Inspector-Instructor, 4th ANGLICO in Summer 2024.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
