Senior Chief Petty Officer Joseph Scalercio
Command Master Chief, 4th Dental Battalion
HMCS(FMF) Scalercio was raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He enlisted in the Navy in June, 1996. After completing recruit training and HM “A” School at Great Lakes, IL and Field Medical Service School (NEC 8404) in Camp Lejeune, NC, he was assigned as a platoon corpsman with 2nd Battalion, 3d Marines, in Kaneohe Bay, HI. During two peacetime deployments to Japan and the Pacific region, he served as company corpsman, and later Battalion Aid Station (BAS) Admin PO. In February of 2000, he transferred to Naval Ambulatory Care Center Groton, CT, serving in both Submarine School Medical Department and as LPO of Wellness, Education & Training, where he was advanced to HM1, qualified Chief of the Deck, and served as a member of the Command Training Team.

In 2003, he was accepted to special duty as a medical officer recruiter for NRD Buffalo, NY where he qualified as an Officer Recruiter (NEC 9585), Medical Officer Recruiter and also served as command DAPA. He was honored as Recruiter of the Year on two consecutive years. He was discharged from Active Duty in October 2006 and immediately affiliated with 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, Marine Forces Reserve, where he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in in September, 2006.
In July, 2007, Chief Scalercio mobilized to Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom with FIRST Naval Construction Regiment, where he served as Regimental Medical Chief at both Al Asad, Iraq and Kandahar, Afghanistan, providing operational oversight to two Seabee Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Aid Stations and one Engineering Support Battalion BAS. At this time, he received a Navy Commendation Medal for leadership during the "lift and shift" of medical operations from the Iraq theater to the Afghanistan theater prior to the 2008 troop surge. He was demobilized in April, 2008 reported back to H&S Company, 1st BN, 25th Marines in Devens, MA, as Training Chief.

In December 2008, Chief Scalercio transferred to Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron EIGHT in Newport, RI, as Medical LCPO. In May, 2011, he was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer. In May, 2013, HMCS Scalercio transferred to 4th Dental Battalion as Company Leading Chief Petty Officer, 14th Dental Company and Command PQS Program Manager. In October 2017 he was appointed as the Command Senior Chief of 4th Dental Battalion, overseeing the efforts of 10 Chief Petty Officers and serving as the principal advisor to the Commanding Officer on all enlisted matters.

HMCS Scalercio is qualified as a Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist (Logistics Combat Element.) He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Blended Course 45 and is a qualified Command Training Team (CTT) member. His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with 4 Gold Stars in Lieu of Fifth Award, Iraq Campaign Service Medal, Afghanistan Campain Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NATO Service Medal and various other unit and campaign Awards.

Senior Chief Scalercio currently works as a Facility Administrator. In 2011, MGMA recognized him as a certified medical practice executive. HMCS Scalercio holds both an MBA and M.S. from George Washington University and a Master of Arts in Military History from Norwich University.
