Lieutenant Colonel Ponzo
Commanding Officer
4th Combat Engineer Battalion

LtCol Ponzo is the Commanding Officer of 4th Combat Engineer Battalion. He was commissioned through the NROTC program at the George Washington University in May of 2002.

His active duty assignments include: Combat Engineer Platoon Commander at 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, the Facilities Maintenance officer and subsequently the Future Operations and Plans Officer for the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center.

His reserve assignments include: Legacy Program Officer in Charge with 1st Intelligence Battalion during OEF in 2010, Rifle Company Commander with Company G 2d Battalion, 23d Marines. Operations Officer and Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, Executive Officer of the IMA detachment at MCTOG, Operations Officer at 2nd Battalion, 23d Marines; and most recently as the Operations officer for the Marine Corps Advisor Company – Bravo.

His deployments include OIF 2 with 3d Battalion 7th Marines in 2004, OIF 4-04 with BLT 2/1 and the 13th MEU, Officer In Charge of the Legacy Program with RC-SW during OEF 10-2, and UDP-W 19.2 with 2d Battalion, 23d Marines.

He is a Graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School (DEP), Command and Staff College (DEP), the Basic Engineer Officer’s Course, the MAGTF Intelligence Officer’s Course, the Operations and Training Officer Course, The Ground Combat Element Commanders’ Course, The Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor Trainer Course, SERE School, and the Winter Mountain Leader’s Course.
