Biography

 

Captain Robert A. Studebaker (DC)
Commanding Officer
4th Dental Battalion

CAPT Studebaker received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Chemistry from Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana in 1991. He graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery from The Ohio State University in 1995 and was commissioned as a Lieutenant just before attending Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, Rhode Island the same year. He was selected to attend a General Practice Residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego from 1995-1996. Upon completion of his residency he attended Fleet Department Head School and was assigned as Department Head, Dental Department on board the USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) from 1996-1998. During Western Pacific Deployment he earned Surface Warfare Dental Officer Qualification. From 1998-2001 he served as Staff Dental Officer at Naval Dental Center Southwest. He was then accepted for specialty training and from 2001-2003 trained with fellow Army and Air Force officers at the Tri Service Orthodontic Residency Program at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Upon completion of residency he was assigned to Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan from 2003-2006 where he was both Department Head and Specialty Advisor for Orthodontics for Navy Medicine Far East.

He became an Active Reservist in 2009 and was assigned as AOIC of DET 5, 4th Dental Company, 4th Dental Battalion until 2010. He was later assigned as OIC of DET 5, and Operations Officer for 4th Dental Company, 4th Dental Battalion until 2012. He also served as Executive Officer of 4th Dental Company, 4th Dental Battalion from 2012 to 2014. During his time with 4th Dental Battalion he successfully achieved qualification as a Fleet Marine Force Officer. In 2014 he was selected as Senior Dental Executive for Expeditionary Medical Facility Camp Pendleton and held that position for 2 years. He then served as the Reserve Fleet Dental Officer for Commander Pacific Fleet from 2016 to 2019. From 2019 to 2022 he served as Executive Officer 4th Dental Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group. CAPT Studebaker achieved full Board Certification in Orthodontics, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.  He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southwest Society of Orthodontists and the Texas Association of Orthodontists. His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Battle E and other awards and decorations.
