Captain Taggart is a native of Philadelphia, PA. He attended Naval Recruit Training Great Lakes in February of 2009. After completing Recruit Training Airman Taggart attended Air Traffic Control A-School in Pensacola florida and graduated in October of 2009.
After completing Air Traffic Control A-School he reported to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota, Spain in October of 2009. While there he served as a ground controller in the tower. He also deployed as an Individual Augmentee (IA) from October of 2012 until June 2013 to Camp Lemmonier Djibouti, Africa. After returning from his IA assignment, AC2 Taggart checked out of NAVSTA Rota in June 2013.
In June of 2013 AC2 Taggart transferred to Naval Support Activities (NSA) Lakehurst, NJ. There he worked in the Control Tower as Flight Data and Ground Controller. In September 2014, AC2 Taggart deployed back to Camp Lemmonier until December of 2015. Returning to NSA Lakehurst, AC2 Taggart finished the remainder of his second enlistment and separated from the Navy in February of 2017.
In the month leading up to AC2 Taggart's EAS, he enrolled at Temple University. Following his departure from the Navy, he continued pursuing his degree with intentions of commissioning in the Marine Corps. In August of 2019 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Temple University.
In September 2019, Candidate Taggart reported to Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, VA and commissioned on November 16, 2019. After commissioning, he immediately reported to The Basic School (TBS) and graduated in June 2020. Following TBS, 2ndLt Taggart reported to Marine Artillery Officer Basic Course (MAOBC) in Ft. Sill, OK. 2ndLt Taggart graduated MAOBC in November of 2020.
In December 2020, 2ndLt Taggart reported to HQ Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines where he took over as the Fire Support Officer (FSO) for Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 3d Marines. After a full work up as the Bravo Company FSO, 1stLt Taggart deployed to Okinawa, Japan in December of 2021. While there he participated in Artillery Readiness Training Program (ARTP) 22.1.
After returning from Okinawa in June of 2022, 1stLt Taggart took over as the Platoon Commander for 2nd Platoon, Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines. He remained the Platoon Commander as the Battery was redesignated as the Medium Missile Battery for the 3d Littoral Combat Team, 3d Marine Littoral Regiment. During his time there he participated in Balikataan 23.1 which took place in the Philippines. It was the final field op in which the battery fired the M777 Howitzer. 1st Lt Taggart is currently select to Captain and will promote January 1, 2024. He served as the Platoon Commander until December 1, 2023, as the Battery fielded the Rogue NMESIS weapons system.
On December 1, 2023 1stLt Taggart was moved to Headquarters and Service Company to serve as the Battalion's RBE OIC. On February 1, 2024 he was promoted to his current rank of Captain. In March of 2024 he served as the Ground Planning Officer for Marine Forces during the conduct of Cobra Gold 24 in Thailand. On May 20, 2024 Capt Taggart checked into to Golf Battery, 3d Battalion, 14th Marines as the Inspector - Instructor.
