Sergeant Major Poor enlisted in the Marine Corps in January of 1997. Upon graduating from recruit training, and MCT, he attended Aviation Maintenance Administration School and was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty 6046 (Aviation Maintenance Administration Clerk).
In September of 1997, Sergeant Major Poor reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron - 142 , Marine Aircraft Group 42, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, in Marietta, Georgia. While serving in the Aviation Maintenance Administration shop, he held the billets of Maintenance Administration Clerk, Technical Directive Manager, and Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge. During this period, he participated in numerous Combined Air Exercises, as well as International Exercises Battle Griffin-99 and Tactical Fighter Weaponry-99.
In December 2003, Sergeant Major Poor accepted Active Duty Specialty Work orders and reported to Headquarters Marine Forces Europe, Stuttgart, Germany. While serving in the unit he held the billet of Training Chief. Upon completion of his tour in June of 2004, he returned home and joined the Inactive Ready Reserves.
In September of 2004, Sergeant Major Poor was mobilized to Headquarters Marine Forces Europe, Stuttgart, Germany. While serving at Headquarters Marine Forces Europe, he held the billets of Command Operations Center Watch NCO, Command Operations Center Watch Chief and Hospital Liaison Officer. Upon completion of his tour in November of 2007, he returned home and joined the Inactive Ready Reserves.
In July 2008, Sergeant Major Poor was mobilized and reported to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron-3, 3D Marine Aircraft Wing, in Miramar, California as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Maintenance Administration Shop. He was then deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was attached to Marine Air Logistic Squadron-16 Reinforced. Upon completion of his tour in June of 2009, he returned home and joined Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron - 773.
In June 2009, Sergeant Major Poor reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron - 773, Marine Air Group 49, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing in Warner Robins, GA. While serving in the unit, he held the billets of Maintenance Administration Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in charge, Squadron Gunnery Sergeant, and Assistant Maintenance Chief.
In June 2015, Sergeant Major Poor was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and reported to Personnel Retrieval and Processing company in Smyrna, GA for duty as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader. In June 2018, Sergeant Major Poor reported to Kilo Company 3d Battalion, 23d Marines in Smyrna, TN for duty as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader. In June of 2019, Sergeant Major Poor reported to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines in Brunswick, ME for duty as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader. The battalion was mobilized for Unit Deployment Program 20.1 West. During this time, he participated in Bilateral Exercise Fuji Viper, Forest Light and Northern Viper.
In June of 2020, Sergeant Major Poor was frocked to his current rank of Sergeant Major and reported to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron-49, for duty as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. In March of 2023, Sergeant Major Poor reported to 23D Marine Regiment, San Bruno, CA for duty as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. During this period he participated in bilateral exercise UNITAS - 2023 and ITX - 2024.
In January 2026, Sergeant Major Poor reported to 4th Combat Readiness Regiment in Marietta, GA as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
Sergeant Major Poor has a Bachelor of Art's degree in Business Administration (majored in economics and finance) and is a licensed Emergency Medical Technician.
