Lieutenant Colonel Steven J. Uziel

Lieutenant Colonel Steven Uziel was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in June 2008. Graduating the Basic Officer Course as the Gung Ho Award recipient, Second Lieutenant Uziel next competed Infantry Officer Course, and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment in Camp Pendleton, CA as a Rifle Platoon Commander. Promoted to First Lieutenant in 2010, Steven Uziel later deployed with Battalion Landing Team 1/1 on USS Boxer (LHD-4) as part of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in 2011. Upon his return, First Lieutenant Uziel screened for and was granted orders to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. In 2012 while awaiting reconnaissance training, First Lieutenant Uziel volunteered for an Individual Augment deployment to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). During this time, First Lieutenant Uziel fulfilled the duties of Ground Watch Officer and Reports Officer for I Marine Expeditionary Force - Forward.

After his return in June 2012, Steven Uziel was promoted to rank of Captain, attended Basic Reconnaissance Course, and given command of a Reconnaissance Platoon. In 2014, Captain Uziel and his platoon were assigned to the 11th MEU as the Maritime Raid Force and deployed aboard USS Makin Island (LHD-8). While underway in September 2014, Captain Uziel and his platoon were phased ashore to support Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR). After his platoon was recovered back aboard USS Makin Island, Captain Uziel fulfilled the collateral duty of 11th MEU Watch Officer in addition to his normal duties. Upon return from the 11th MEU in 2015, Captain Uziel assumed the duties of Assistant Operations Officer of 1st Reconnaissance Battalion and attended Multi-Mission Military Free-Fall Parachutist Course and Marine Combatant Diver Course. In the spring of 2016, Captain Uziel completed the Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar Program and was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate.

In summer 2016, Captain Uziel received orders to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. From 2016 – 2018, Captain Uziel commanded Company A, 3d Reconnaissance Battalion through more than two dozen events in support of theater operational requirements. In the summer of 2018, Captain Uziel executed orders to Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Monterey, CA and was promoted to the rank of Major. While at NPS, Major Uziel completed USMC Command and Staff College Distance Education Program and was again recognized as a Distinguished Graduate. In September 2020, Major Uziel graduated NPS with a Master of Science Degree in Information Technology Management. Upon graduation, Major Uziel was transferred to Training and Education Command (TECOM) aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA. After the fulfillment of his utilization tour with TECOM, Major Uziel conducted Permanent Change of Station to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion in July 2022 for duty as Executive Officer and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in February 2024. In July 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Uziel executed orders to HQMC, DC PP&O for duty as the Reconnaissance Occupational Field Manager. In May 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Uziel reported to Pasadena, CA for duty as Battalion Inspector Inspector-Instructor, 2d Battalion, 23d Marine Regiment.

Lieutenant Colonel Uziel’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (x2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (x2), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Campaign medals include the OEF and OIR Campaign Medals
