Edgar Harris enlisted in the Marine Corps delayed entry program on January 31, 1994. On August 3rd, 1994, Pvt reported to 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego. Upon completing basic training with LIMA Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego, Pvt Harris attended Marine Combat Training, and Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry Camp Pendleton, CA and attained the primary MOS of 0311 Basic Rifle man. After graduation from the School of Infantry, PFC Harris was assigned to 3rd Battalion 4th Marines , 1st Marine Division , Camp Pendleton Ca., where he served as a radio operator for LIMA Company 1st Plt . In November of 1995, LCpl Harris went (UDP) and spent six months in Okinawa, Japan. During his six month stay in Japan he went before the Marine Security Guard screening and was selected with orders to go to school in September of 1996. After graduating MSG school, LCpl Harris received orders to Kinsasha Zaire, Africa where he stood as a watch stander from 1996-1998. In March of 1998 Cpl Harris reported to 3rd Battalion 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division where he served as a Squard Leader for 3rd Plt. Cpl Harris extended for a year to make the UDP deployment to Okinawa with 3/5, but received orders to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA. where he served as a armory custodian. In October of 1999, Cpl Harris reenlisted and was reassigned as the warehouse Chief and Police Sgt for HQ 1st Marine Division. In January 2000 Sgt Harris received orders to Division Schools where he served as the Small arms weapons instructor and laser instructor. In October of 2000 Sgt Harris received orders to recruiting duty. After completion of recruiting school, Sgt Harris was assigned as a recruiter in Daytona Beach Florida. After being on recruiting duty for a year, Sgt Harris received district Recruiter of the year and was meritoriously promoted to SSgt. After receiving the promotion to SSgt, SSgt Harris was reassigned as the Non Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) Jacksonville FL. In December 2005 SSgt Harris receives orders back to HQ Battalion 1st Mar Div G-7 as the Human Affairs representative for the Division. After 5 months, SSgt Harris received orders back to Division Schools as the S-3 Chief. In January 2006, SSgt Harris received orders to deploy with I MEF to Iraq for 1 year as the COC Watch Chief. After 9 months in Iraq, SSgt Harris was reassigned on a MITT Team in Ramadi Iraq, where SSgt Harris spent a total of 13 months of deployment time. After returning from Iraq SSgt Harris received orders to 2nd Battalion 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, where he served as a Plt Sgt for Mobile assault platoon 2 (MAP 2) from May 2007-August 2008. During this time GySgt Harris deployed to Okinawa Japan attached to the 31st MEU. In September of 2008, after returning from SNCO Advance Course, GySgt Harris was reassigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Fox Company BLT 2/4, 1st Marine Division. Gunnery Sergeant was deployed for 7 months as BLT Fox 2/4 Company Gunnery Sergeant. After deployment, GySgt Harris received orders to Marine Forces South in Miami, FL in July 2010. GySgt Harris worked in the G-3 Section as the G-3 Operations/Training Chief. GySgt Harris was responsible for all aspects of training to include but not limited to pistol ranges, annual training requirements and weapons tactics training in the US as well as South America. In March 2012 GySgt Harris was frocked to 1sgtSgt and reported to I&I Hialeah on March 26, 2012 where he currently serves as the I&I 1stSgt .
