Sergeant Major Timothy M. Babcock is a native of Michigan and enlisted in the Marine Corps upon completing High School. He graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego in January of 1996.
In January 1996 he reported to Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, CA for Marine Combat Training. In March 1996 he attended his primary Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training at Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools at the Personnel Administration School at Camp Johnson, NC where he received the MOS of 0151 Administrative Clerk. Upon completion of MOS School he received orders in March 1996 to 2d Battalion, 1st Marines where he was assigned as an Administrative Clerk. While assigned with 2d Battalion, 1st Marines he completed two Western Pacific (WESTPAC) deployments one with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Boxer and one with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Boxer.
In December 1999, he reported to the Military Entrance Processing Station Lansing, MI. While there he served as the Test Administrator and Operations Processing Specialist.
In January 2003, he reported to the Commanding General, 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade (Anti-Terrorism). While there he served as an Administrative Clerk and Assistant Administrative Chief, and Information Management Representative.
In June 2003, attended the United States Army Infantry School, Airborne Course at Fort Benning, GA.
In December 2005, he reported to Marine Aviation Detachment, China Lake, CA. While there he served as the Administrative Chief for China Lake and Point Mugu.
In October 2008, he reported to Marine Special Operations School, U.S. Marine Forces, Special Operations Command (MARSOC). While there he served as the Administrative Chief. During his time at MARSOC he deployed with 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion as the Adjutant for Special Operations Task Force 82, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan from April 2010 to May 2011.
In May 2011, he reported to Marine Special Operations Regiment. While there he served as the Administrative Chief. He also served as the Headquarters Company First Sergeant from January 2012 to March 2012.
In March 2012, he reported to Marine Aircraft Group 29. While there he served as the Administrative Chief.
In January 2013, he reported to 2d Battalion, 9th Marines. While there he served as the First Sergeant for Company G, 2d Battalion, 9th Marines. During this time he deployed on the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan and participated in exercise Forest Light and the Korean Marine Exchange Program.
In June 2015, he reported to the Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command Tampa, FL. While there he served as the First Sergeant for Headquarters Company, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command.
In March 2018, he reported to 2d Tank Battalion. While there he served as the First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company.
In December 2019, he reported to Marine Air Support Squadron 1 to serve as the Sergeant Major for Marine Air Support Squadron 1.
In May 2022, he reported to 1st Battalion, 24th Marines to serve as the Inspector-Instructor Sergeant Major .
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (Two Gold stars in lieu of third award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Four Gold stars in lieu of fifth award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (One Gold star in lieu of second award), Combat Action Ribbon and various other service and campaign awards. Sergeant Major Babcock is also authorized to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist Insignia.
