Sergeant Major Alviso is a native of Fullerton, California, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 1994. He attended recruit training aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, where he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class upon graduation. He completed Marine Combat Training and reported to Courthouse Bay, Camp Lejeune, for Basic Electrician Course. Sergeant Major Alviso then received orders to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-nine Palms, California. During his tour he served in various billets in Base Facilities and 7th Marine Regiment where he supported 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 2d Battalion, 7th Marines, and 1st Tank Battalion with the Fleet Assistance Program (FAP). In May of 1996, he was promoted to Corporal and transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 171, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Iwakuni, Japan.
Throughout his assignment with MWSS-171, he deployed to various exercises in Guam, Australia, and Southeast Asia. In April 1997, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and in December, received orders to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division. Sergeant Major Alviso participated in numerous Combined Arms Exercises, Steel Knight, and Desert Scimitar. In December 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California where he was subsequently assigned to Company E, 2d Recruit Training Battalion. He served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and the Staff Non-commissioned Officer in Charge of the Recruit Depot training tank.
Sergeant Major Alviso was transferred to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, in November of 2004. He deployed with Company C in August 2005 through March 2006 to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In August 2006, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and received the MOS of Utilities Chief. He again deployed from August of 2006 through April 2007 to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
In May 2007, Sergeant Major Alviso was transferred to Combat Service Support Group 3, 3d Marine Logistics Group, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
Upon his arrival, he was assigned as the Battalions Operations Chief. In June 2008, the Group was re-designated as Combat Logistics Battalion 3 and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as the Logistical Command Element for the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Afghanistan. In 2009, Sergeant Major Alviso was awarded the Sergeant Harry D. Meyers award by the Marine Corps League for significant contributions in logistics to the Marine Corps Operating Forces.
In March 2010, Sergeant Major Alviso transferred to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division. In October 2010, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as the Operations Chief, Engineer Support Company. Upon his promotion to First Sergeant in July 2011, he was transferred to Company F, 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Upon his return from Afghanistan, Sergeant Major Alviso was transferred to Headquarters and Service Company where he served as the Company First Sergeant.
In May 2013, Sergeant Major Alviso received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego where he served as the First Sergeant, Co M, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, First Sergeant, Drill Instructor School and First Sergeant, Receiving Company.
In November 2016, Sergeant Major Alviso was selected to his current rank and reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 323, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing for duty in January 2016. During this tour, Sergeant Major Alviso deployed aboard USS Nimitz (CVN-68) as part of Carrier Air Wing-11, Carrier Strike Group-11 throughout 3d, 5th, and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
In April of 2018, Sergeant Major Alviso reported to Recruiting Station Sacramento, California, 12th Marine Corps District for duty as the Recruiting Station Sergeant Major.
In November of 2019, Sergeant Major Alviso reported to Marine Air Control Group (MACG) 48, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing where he served as the Site Sergeant Major, MACG-48.
In January of 2022, Sergeant Major Alviso reported to 23d Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division where he currently serves as the Inspector Instructor Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Alviso's personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Silver Star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star, Combat Action Ribbon with Gold Star, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He is a graduate of both the Marine Corps Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education and the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy.
