Sergeant Major Brian E. Anderson

Sergeant Major Brian E. Anderson is a native of Phoenix, Arizona. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1999 and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon completion in April 1999, Sergeant Major Anderson attended the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California and earned the MOS of 0311 Rifleman.

Sergeant Major Anderson's service in the Operating Forces includes duties as a Rifleman, Fire Team Leader, and Squad Leader,  Company L, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines from June 1999 to October 2003; Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, and Company Gunnery Sergeant, Company A, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines from March 2007 to January 2010; Company First Sergeant, Company F, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines from February 2014 to January 2016; and Command Senior Enlisted Leader, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines from January 2018 to December 2021.  

Sergeant Major Anderson's service outside the Operating Forces includes duties as Assistant Operations Chief, Inspector-Instructor Staff, Company L, 3d Battalion, 23d Marines, Montgomery, Alabama from October 2003 to March 2007; Company Gunnery Sergeant and Crew-Served Weapons Chief Instructor, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry West from January 2010 to March 2013; Operations Chief, Marine Corps Installation Camp Mujuk, Republic of Korea from April 2013 to February 2014; Company First Sergeant, Motor Transport Maintenance Company and Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Maintenance Battalion from January 2016 to January 2018; and Director, Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy Camp Pendleton, California from January 2022 to March 2024. 

Sergeant Major Anderson's Deployments and Overseas Assignments include: 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit August 2000 to February 2001, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit June 2002 to December 2002, and Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 2003 to May 2003 with 3d Battalion, 1st Marines; Operation Iraqi Freedom from July 2007 to February 2008, and 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit from January 2009 to July 2009 with 1st Battalion, 1st Marines; Marine Corps Installation Camp Mujuk, Republic of Korea from April 2013 to February 2014; 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit from November 2014 to May 2015 with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines; Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command 19.2 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve from April to October 2019, and Marine Rotational Force-Darwin 21.2 from April to October 2021 with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines. 

Sergeant Major Anderson has earned both Bachelor and Master of Arts Degrees in Homeland Security and an Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies from American Military University; as well as an Associate of Arts Degree in Military Leadership from Palomar College.  His personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of 5th award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of 4th award, Air Force Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star in lieu of 2nd award, and the U. S. Department of State Meritorious Honor Award.
