Marines assigned to 2nd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment launch a rocket from a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System here during their Mission Rehearsal Exercise for African Lion 2013. The artillerymen and other troops with 14th Marines performed various live-fire battle drills before the unit deploys to AL-13 in Morocco this spring. This will be the first time the unit will demonstrate both HIMARS and M777 Howitzer capabilities for their Moroccan partners. The Marines of 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group were awarded the W.P.T. Hill award for best field mess for 2013. The Hill awards aim to reward high quality food service and recognize culinary expertise. 6th ESB achieved this award by improving food service operations and encouraging excellence in the garrison and field foodservice programs, as well as contributing to improving the quality of life for Marines and Navy personnel. Sgt. Dante Capane receives the Reservist of the Year Award from Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James F. Amos, and Sgt. Maj. of the Marine Corps, Michael P. Beginning Jan. 4, 2013, all non-deployed Marines and sailors assigned to Marine units, regardless of component, active or Reserve, will be required to wear the appropriate seasonal service uniform each Friday. The service B uniform, otherwise known as “bravos,” consists of a long-sleeve khaki shirt with a tie and trousers and is worn November through March. On a "Mission to Save Christmas" Marines from Marine Aircraft Group 49 along with other service members and volunteers off-load "Fat Albert", the Blue Angles C-130 Hercules, that flew in with a cargo bay full of toys collected by Marine Toys For Tots and donations by Toys R Us, Hasbro Inc., and Lockheed Martin for children in the Tri-State area affected by Super Storm Sandy Dec. 3, 2012, to the MAG 49's hangar at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst . The Marine Forces Reserve colorguard led a contingent of MARFORRES Marines through the streets of New Orleans Nov. 10, as a part of Louisiana's bicentennial military parade. The Marines were not only celebrating the bicentennial, but Veterans Day and the birthday of the Marine Corps as well.
