Maj. Ann Bernard completes repetitions of pull-ups at the physical fitness gym here Feb. 15, 2013. Bernard, a competitive bodybuilder and the G-6 officer in charge for Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve, was training as the Marine Corps transitions pull-ups into the female physical fitness test repertoire. According to ALMAR 046/12, as of January 1, 2013, female Marines have the option to perform pull-ups in place of the flexed-arm hang on their annual PFT. The Marines of 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group were awarded the W.P.T. Hill award for best field mess for 2013. The Hill awards aim to reward high quality food service and recognize culinary expertise. 6th ESB achieved this award by improving food service operations and encouraging excellence in the garrison and field foodservice programs, as well as contributing to improving the quality of life for Marines and Navy personnel. The Marine Forces Reserve colorguard led a contingent of MARFORRES Marines through the streets of New Orleans Nov. 10, as a part of Louisiana's bicentennial military parade. The Marines were not only celebrating the bicentennial, but Veterans Day and the birthday of the Marine Corps as well. Winds up to 80 mph and floodwaters up to 14 feet blanketed New York, bursting a transformer, which caused a fire in the Queens neighborhood of Rockaway Beach, destroying 111 homes. The fire and floodwaters trapped many residents, who had to be rescued by local authorities and Marines from the 6th Communications Battalion, headquartered in Brooklyn, N.Y. Marines from Battery O, 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division prepare to fire artillery rounds from an M777A2 155 mm howitzer at East Fuji Maneuver Area, Japan Sept. 11. Battery O is in Japan as a part of the Unit Deployment Program, a program designed to increase the training level and unit continuity of Marine Corps units stationed in the continental United States.
