Selected Reserve Marines Lateral Move and Career Progression Military Occupational Specialty Programs

Marine administrative message 609/16 publishes guidance for Reserve Marines who would like to pursue a lateral move into a new primary military occupational specialty or obtain a progressive MOS.

To be eligible for this progression, enlisted Marines be of the rank lance corporal to sergeant, and officers in the rank of first lieutenant or captain. Check the MARADMIN for eligibility requirements

The following Primary MOSs are open to lateral move into, and require, career progression training:


0303 Light-Armored Reconnaissance Officer

0307 Expeditionary Ground Reconnaissance Officer

0317 Scout Sniper

0814 High Mobility Artillery Rocker System Operator

1342 Small Craft Mechanic

3524 Fuel and Electrical Systems Mechanic

3536 Vehicle Recovery Operator

6012 Aviation Maintenance Controller/Production Controller

6033 Aircraft Nondestructive Inspection Technician\

6043 Aircraft Welder

6049 NALCOMIS Application Administrator/Analyst

6242 Fixed-Wing Transport Aircraft Specialist

8621 Surveillance Sensor Operator

8641 Microminiature Repairer



Requests for other NMOSs will be approved in a case by case basis by Reserve Affairs, Reserve Affairs Personnel Policy, Plans, and Programming and Budgeting Branch. Marines must be able to complete all required training without a break in-between schools.
