CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Marine Band New Orleans performed in the 62nd annual Armed Forces Day Parade here May 6.
The parade began with a Marine color guard leading the way followed by the drum major and Marine Band New Orleans.
They marched down the street playing “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Phillip Sousa and “Halls of Montezuma” also known as the Marine’s Hymn.
“I’m just really proud and glad they are all here,” said Melody Bardas, an attendant of the parade. “I’m proud of our military.”
The Marine Band New Orleans played a very significant role in the parade and was cheered on by countless members of the audience as the band paraded down the street.
As the parade came to an end, the Marines formed up in two columns and marched to city hall. There, they played for participants after the parade and Hunter received a plaque as a token of appreciation for the band’s participation.
There were other Marines involved in the parade as well. Battery M, 3rd battalion, 14th Marine Regiment also played a role in the parade, showing off the seven-ton trucks and a 155mm towed howitzer.
“I was impressed by the turnout of the parade and the support from the community,” said snare drummer Cpl. Aundre Wesley.
The Marines loaded back onto the bus after their successful parade to enjoy one more night in Tennessee before driving back to New Orleans in the morning.
