5 Aug 2014 | Cpl. Tiffany Edwards U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve

NEW ORLEANS - GEICO announced they are accepting nominations for the 2014 GEICO Military Service Awards. The GMSA Program honors one active-duty enlisted member from each military service and one member from the Reserve or National Guard component each year for outstanding contributions to the civilian and/or military community. Service members are evaluated for work in drug and alcohol abuse prevention, fire safety and fire prevention, as well as traffic safety and accident prevention.

Recipients are recognized with an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. and are presented with an honorarium. Selections are based on noteworthy contributions in one of the three categories, during a service member’s on-duty and off-duty activities that are current, in progress or completed in prior years. Active-duty and Reserve component enlisted members with at least one year obligated service from the date of the nomination are eligible. Previous recipients of this award are not allowed to be nominated again.

Nomination packages require:

Nominees must also include consent for release of personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act.

2.       The nomination packet also requires a detailed one-page narrative stating the reason for nomination, a cover letter from the nominee's commanding officer providing a positive statement about the nominee, the category for which the individual is being nominated, and the name and telephone number of a unit point of contact.
