New Orleans -- Marine administrative message 533/14 states that changes are to be made to long-term temporary additional duty assignment per diem rules. Beginning Nov. 1, 2014 the Department of Defense personnel ordered that long-term TAD for periods longer than 30 days will receive the flat rate per diem for all travel.
DOD travelers traveling less than 30 days will be entitled to full per diem. The flat rate per diem will not apply when the traveler stays in government quarters, or contracted government lodging. Upon traveling to the TAD location, travelers can receive up to 100 percent lodging at the locality rate and 75 percent for meals and incidental expenses. For TAD lasting 31 to 180 days, the traveler is entitled a flat rate 75 percent of the locality rate as well as meals and expenses.
Travelers that stay with relatives or friends will not receive the lodging portion of their per diem. Travelers that cannot find suitable commercial accommodations at the reduced rate should contact their commercial travel office for assistance. The defense travel system does not automatically calculate reduced per diem based on the length of the TAD.
