Leave accrual rules set to change in Oct. 2015

8 Apr 2015 | Cpl. Tiffany Edwards U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve

Marine administrative message 151/15 announced the expiration of the 75-day maximum annual leave accrual is set to expire on Sep. 30, 2015. Effective Oct. 1, 2015, all Marines with an annual leave balance in excess of 60 days will lose those extra days, unless subject to special leave accrual.

The procedures that govern SLA, to include eligibility criteria and granting authority, have not changed. Commanders will ensure approved SLA requests meet requirements. Active-duty Marines and Reserve Marines serving on active-duty who have been unable to execute annual leave due to serving a minimum of 120 continuous days in hostile fire and imminent danger pay areas, may be authorized to accumulate special leave in excess of 60 days. However, the balance is not to exceed a maximum of 120 days. Assignment to a deployable ship or mobile unit which operates away from its designated homeport for a continuous period of at least 120 days may also qualify a Marine for SLA.

For more information about the revised leave policy, see the MARADMIN.
