Jim Kallstrom Awards and Marine Corps security and Emergency Services Civilian Awards

3 Dec 2015 | Cpl. Ian Ferro U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve

Marine administrative message 560/15 announces guidance on the qualification process of the Jim Kallstrom Awards and Marine Corps Security and Emergency Services Civilian Awards.

The awards will be presented at the U.S. Marine Corps Senior Leaders Security Conference, which will be held from March 7-11 in San Diego, Calif.

Introduced in 2009, these awards recognize the outstanding leadership and bravery exhibited by military police personnel throughout the Marine Corps. The awards are presented in honor of Jim Kallstrom, a former Vietnam Marine who distinguished himself during a career of more than 28 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, culminating with his appointment as the assistant director of the FBI's New York bureau.

The Jim Kallstrom Awards are divided into two categories: one award for bravery and one for leadership.

Nominees must be active duty or reserve serving on active orders and possess a military police military occupational specialty (58xx) during the period of eligibility. Their actions must have occurred within the 2015 calendar year to be considered.

They must clearly demonstrate the ethos of protect and serve; honor, courage and commitment; and a genuine concern for the well-being of the corps and fellow Marines.

Nominees for bravery must have performed a selfless act above and beyond the call of duty.  Examples include but are not limited to lifesaving actions and courage under fire or attack.

Nominees for leadership must set the standard for all Marines to follow. They must exhibit qualities that have made an outstanding contribution to the development of esprit de corps, loyalty, and mission accomplishment within their unit.
