Mentor Match Service developed to increase Corps’ professional talent

17 Mar 2016 | Sgt. Brytani Musick U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve

MARADMIN 123/16 announces a new service designed to assist matching individuals interested in sharing their knowledge, experience, and expertise with individuals interested in working with experienced professional experts to develop their talent and career prospects.

Mentor-Match Services (MMS) is designed to help establish learning connections; it is not designed to be a mentoring or leadership development program. MMS works under the premise that the roles of the mentor and mentee are not roles exclusive to a supervisory hierarchy or chain-of-command relationship.

The service allows participants to register in an online directory as a mentor or mentee. In the directory they will identify specific skills or developmental interests. The service will show matches based on their geographic locations, allowing the mentor or mentee to initiate a meeting to start the enriching relationship.

During the month of March 2016, any civilian employee interested in joining as a mentor is encouraged to register. This allows time for mentors to register before mentees so that mentees can be matched quicker once they are allowed to register. On April 4, 2016, MMS will open registration to all civilian employees.

Mentors can register by going to their Total Workforce Management Services (TWMS)  self-service account located at:  https:(back-slash)(back-slash)mytwms.navy.mil.  Once on the self-service screen, click on the "Mentoring" button from the Navigation Menu located on the left side of the screen.

When first accessing the service, registrants will be required to take the "Basics of Mentoring" training on TWMS before being allowed to proceed. This course gives an overview of the various roles and responsibilities, and suggests mentoring and learner techniques which support a successful mentoring relationship. User guides and a video tutorial for performing various functions within the MMS can be found at:

https:(back-slash)(back-slash)www.manpower.usmc.mil(back-slash)TWMS. Additional training options can be found on the MMS "Resources" tab after registering.

This is a great opportunity for senior leaders and our best and brightest to help add to the arsenal of talent within the Marine Corps. Everyone is encouraged to participate and leaders are urged to support use of the MMS to help grow mission capability.

For more information see MARADMIN 123/16.
