UNITAS 2022
U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Eli Smith, a squad leader with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, in support of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force UNITAS LXIII provides cover for a Brazilian amphibious assault vehicle conducting an amphibious assault training event during exercise UNITAS LXIII in Itaoca, Brazil, Sept. 16, 2022. A landing craft, utility was used to move Brazilian, United States, and Uruguayan marines to shore from the amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), where they secured a beachhead. UNITAS is the world’s longest-running annual multinational maritime exercise that focuses on enhancing interoperability among multiple nations and joint forces during littoral and amphibious operations in order to build on existing regional partnerships and create new enduring relationships that promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility.
