On September 21, 2016, Marines from the Inspector-Instructor Staff of Indianapolis had the honor and privilege of presenting the Purple Heart Medal to WWII veteran, Pfc. Junior E. Howell, for wounds sustained during the Battle of Peleliu on Sept. 21, 1944. Howell is one of the last living WWII veterans to receive the Purple Heart.
