Marine Forces Reserve Celebrates 241 Years of Service
Colonel Derrick Heyl, commanding officer of Headquarters Battalion, Marine Forces Reserve, and Sgt. Maj. Michael J. Rowan, Sergeant Major of Headquarters Battalion, lead Marines from Marine Forces Reserve through the streets here and greet members of the community during a 3-mile motivational formation run, Nov. 9, 2016. Each year, the Marines celebrate the Corps’ birthday with a cake-cutting ceremony followed by a run. Since Nov. 10, 1775, the United States Marine Corps has earned the reputation as the world's most effective expeditionary fighting force – engaging in combat on battlefields across the globe.
