From Jun to Dec 2020, SPMAGTF-SC 20, in coordination with Partner Nations and US Government entities, forward deploys to execute opportune maritime engagements, theater security cooperation, and foreign humanitarian assistance in the SOUTHCOM AOR to increase interoperability between U.S. and select partner naval forces, build a more lethal force, and increase PN ability to export security. BPT support limited crisis response.

U.S. Marines with 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, and members of the Armada de Chile, Cuerpo de Infantería de Marina (Chilean Marine Corps), conduct warm-up exercises at Destacamento de Infanteria Marina Number 4 (Chilean Marine Detachment Number 4) “Cochrane”, Chile, during exercise UNITAS LXV, Sep. 3, 2024. The Marines conducted physical training to build camaraderie and esprit de corps, and maintain fitness standards. UNITAS, which is Latin for “unity,” was conceived in 1959 and has taken place annually since first conducted in 1960.
