Marine Forces Reserve birthday ball
Lt. Gen. Rex C. McMillian (left), commander of Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North, passes the second piece of cake to retired Sgt. Maj. Raymond A. Liss, the oldest Marine present, during the MARFORRES birthday ball at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Nov. 19, 2016. Liss enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1953 as a cannoneer, and retired in 1984 as the Sergeant Major of 4th Marine Division in New Orleans. Each year, a ball is hosted to celebrate the birthday of the Corps and to remember Marines who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Since its establishment in 1775, the Marine Corps has fought and won our nation’s battles. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Melissa Martens/ Released)
