ABOUT 

The United States Department of Defense Arctic Care Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) Program in partnership, with the Kodiak Area Native Association, will present “Arctic Care 2021”, a no-cost medical, dental, optometry and veterinary services program to the communities on Kodiak Island from May 5-13, 2021.  Arctic Care provides training opportunities to military units while providing incidental benefit to communities via no-cost healthcare.  The healthcare services will be tailored to the individual needs of each rural community.

Marine World War II veteran's remains returned

Retired Col. Elwin B. Hart presents the flag to Pfc. Elmer L. Mathies’ sister Mary Jo during a memorial service held for Mathies in Hereford, Texas, May 28, 2016. Hart was Mathies’ platoon sergeant during his service in World War II. Mathies was killed in action during the Battle of Tarawa in 1943. His remains were found and recovered on the island in 2015 by the nonprofit organization History Flight, which is dedicated to preserving and honoring World War II, Vietnam and Gulf War combat veterans.
