The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan

UNITAS 2022

U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. A landing craft, utility was used to move Brazilian, United States, and Uruguayan marines to shore from the amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), where they secured a beachhead. UNITAS, which is Latin for “unity,” was conceived in 1959 and has taken place annually since first conducted in 1960. This year marks the 63rd iteration of the world’s longest-running annual multi-national maritime exercise. Additionally, this year Brazil will celebrate its bicentennial, a historical milestone commemorating 200 years of the country’s independence. Grant is a native of Chillicothe, Ohio.
