ABOUT 

Gunslinger is a large military exercise conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, and the Kansas Air National Guard’s 134th Air Control Squadron of McConnell Air Force Base. More than 1,300 Marines from 11 home training centers across the country have deployed to multiple areas throughout Kansas to participate in Gunslinger 22.

Marine Awarded Silver Star for Vietnam War Heroics

Retired Maj. Gen. John Admire (right) speaks about retired Maj. Edward F. Wright (left) at Portland, Ore., Feb. 1, 2019. Wright was awarded the medal for his actions on Aug. 21, 1967, when he led a reaction force against North Vietnamese forces that had ambushed an Army convoy and pinned down his company commander’s relief force. While exposed to intense enemy fire, Wright’s tactical skills and placement of fire support enabled his force to steadily advance and rescue the besieged Soldiers and Marines.
