4th Tanks practice live fire ranges and amphibious operations
An M1 Abrams tank with Company E, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, fires a Canister Round out of its 120 millimeter main gun during a live-fire range as a part of the battalion’s annual training exercise here, July 21, 2014. The canister round holds 1,001 large pellets that spread into a large target area when fired; tearing through wood, concrete, metal and anything that would come in between the tank and its target. The two week exercise included live-fire tank and infantry integration as well as amphibious operations which gave the Marines a chance to operate in a simulated ship-to-shore movement.
