ABOUT 

"Marines from 2nd Battalion 23d Marine Regiment will conduct mountain training exercises aboard Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport allowing Marines to sustain warfighting functions while participating in realistic combat training in a mountainous environment. The purpose of MTX is to facilitate increased readiness and to challenge units’ ability to plan and perform."

Marine mortarmen with Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment fire nine rounds for effect at simulated targets down range as part of an indirect-fire weapons integration exercise Aug. 15, 2014 aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., during exercise Heavy Metal 14. The 81mm mortar is an indirect-fire weapon that allows friendly units to suppress the enemy so they can advance.
