About 25 World War II Iwo Jima veterans were in attendance at the 68th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima luncheon ceremony at the Marine’s Memorial Hotel March 13, 2013. The event was an opportunity to accentuate the connection between the WWII-era 4th Marine Division with today's 4th Marine Division and Marine Forces Reserve. More than 100 veterans, modern Marines and guests were in attendance.

Marines with 4th Civil Affairs Group, Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve, march with M-16 rifles in-hand during the 57th Inaugural Parade from the Capitol to the White House Jan. 21, 2013. For centuries, Marines have supported the inaugural events and this year, more than 2,100 service members from each of the five branches marched in the parade. Winston Burns Sr. was presented with a bronze replica of the Congressional Gold Medal Sept. 10, at Marine Corps Support Facility New Orleans. Approximately 420 Marines who attended segregated basic training at Montford Point, N.C., received the medal in ceremonies across the country this summer. The award was symbolically presented to all Montford Point Marines during a ceremony inside Emancipation Hall in the U.S. Capitol June 27. William McDowell, a Montford Point veteran himself, received the medal that day with roughly 400 of his fellows in attendance. The next day, those 400 received replicas of the original gold medal, which is currently being prepared for display in the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Va.
