Justin Cortez, a civil affairs specialist with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force - Southern Command, wears a facemask in accordance with virus prevention at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Marines and Sailors of SPMAGTF-SC take the necessary precautions to avoid a spread of the virus to continue training in order to certify themselves for their deployment in the U.S. Southern Command area of operations. The task force stands ready to deploy to Latin America and the Caribbean to conduct crisis response training and operations within the region. Cortez is a native of Miami, Florida. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jenna Bentle, a hospital corpsman with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force - Southern Command, is part of the task force’s medical team assisting in the prevention of COVID-19 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The SPMAGTF-SC medical team ensured that the service members of the task force are screened for the appropriate symptoms and continue to follow virus prevention guidelines during training events. The task force trains to deploy to Latin America and the Caribbean to help with crisis response training and operations within the region. Bentle is a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Thomas Shu, Military Unit Manager for the Intensive Care Unit at Elmhurst Hospital here. U.S. Northern Command facilitates approved Requests for Assistance between the Services, the Department of Defense and the Lead Federal Agency to provide these services throughout their area of responsibility. The specific nature of the support depends on the lead federal agency requirements. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, is providing military support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help communities in need.
