Each year MARFORRES holds a wreath laying ceremony at Carmick’s gravesite. Carmick commanded Marines and local militia men in the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812 and established the Marine Corps nickname leatherneck.

Maj. Gen. William T. Collins, the commanding general of the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Forces Reserve, is promoted by Lt. Gen. Richard P. Mills, commander of MARFORRES, at the Marine Corps Support Facility New Orleans, March 16, 2014. His wife, Rosaelia Collins, attended the ceremony and helped pin on his new rank. Collins assumed command of the 4th MAW on Aug. 5, 2012.

Sgt. Maj. William F. Fitzgerald III receives the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing sword of office from Brig. Gen. William T. Collins during the 4th MAW relief and appointment ceremony April 14, 2013 at the Marine Corps Support Facility New Orleans. Fitzgerald took over as sergeant major of the 4th MAW after serving as the sergeant major of Marine Forces South from September 2009 to March 2013.
