Montford Point Marines listen to Col. John C. Church, Jr., of 3rd Civil Affairs Group, Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve, Feb. 6, 2016, as he welcomes them and thanks them for their contributions to the Marine Corps. The Marines of 3rd CAG had the opportunity to listen to the stories of the Montford Point Marines and had the chance to ask them questions.

Woodrow Arthur and Cleveland Williams were two of approximately 20,000 black Marines who were trained at the Montford Point training facility in Camp Johnson, North Carolina, when military forces were still segregated.

The Montford Point Marines gather together for a group photo during the National Montford Point Marine Association’s 49th Annual National Convention, July 16, 2014. The Montford Point Marines were part of the 20,000 African American service members that trained at Montford Point during World War II. To preserve this legacy, the association has offered to share their stories, provide mentorship and conduct workshops with active duty and Reserve Marines throughout the convention.

Allen at the National Montford Point Marine Association’s 49th Annual National Convention, July 16, 2014. Allen was one of the original Montford Point Marines. The president and vice president of the National Montford Point Marine Association presented the medal to Allen-Smith during the National President’s Reception.
